This Valentine’s concert celebrates love with emotionally engaging works from Romantic composers, including Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, a classic expression of optimism with regard to fate. Modern, young composer Kevin Puts’ Marimba Concerto, performed by Symphony principal percussionist Lana Wordel, is lively and entertaining. The Symphony Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Philip Bauman, perform side-by-side with the professional musicians on Hanson’s Romantic Symphony No. 2.
